"We didn't invent a single recipe here. We just refused to let a good one stay hidden in one village."
Every sweet in this shop had a life before it reached our counter — a kitchen in Tapeswaram, a courtyard in Athreyapuram, a furnace in Kakinada, a confectioner's shop in Rajahmundry, even a halwai as far as Agra. Konaseema Ruchulu exists to close that distance: not by copying what they make, but by procuring the sweet itself, sourced directly from the town that gave it a name.
It started small — a shop opposite the old Madras Bus Stand, and a belief that Nellore deserved the real thing, not a local imitation. A decade on, that belief hasn't changed, even as the shelf has grown. Every new addition, from a fresh batch of Ariselu to our very first spice powders, is held to the same question we started with: would the family that invented this recognise it? If the answer isn't yes, it doesn't go on the counter.
